A cracking Madrid derby in Europe on the cards

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid are set to begin life without Cristiano Ronaldo and under Julen Lopetegui in a competitive game.

The Los Blancos have reportedly arrived in Tallinn ahead of another Madrid derby in Europe as they face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in the UEFA Super Cup.

It’s no surprise that Julen Lopetegui has insisted that his side must play as a team. German midfielder Toni Kroos has also admitted this fact, insisting that replacing Ronaldo’s goalscoring numbers won’t be an easy feat.

Real Madrid are coming off the back of three consecutive pre-season wins against Juventus, Roma, and Milan after losing their first game against Manchester United.

Real Madrid are already showing signs of solidity in defence while the front 3 of Benzema, Bale, and Asensio appear to have clicked.

This is necessary as they will be coming up against an expectedly well marshaled Diego Simeone defence line.

Meanwhile, Diego Simeone’s men will be heaving sighs of relief as they won’t have to contend with Cristiano Ronaldo and they’ll definitely consider it as an advantage.

This is because the Portuguese attacker was a thorn in the flesh of Diego Simeone’s men in previous meetings.

As Los Blancos prepare for the game, they must note that their city rivals have strengthened considerably this summer and should not be taken lightly.

Atletico’s attack that already parades Diego Costa and Griezmann have also seen the addition of the likes of Gelson Martins and Thomas Lemar.

This game should provide a decent opportunity for Julen Lopetegui to test his wits against a very solid side in a competitive game.

It must be noted that Los Rojiblancos are unbeaten in the competition and will undoubtedly provide stiff competition for Los Blancos.

The game will be a cracker and all eyes will be on Benzema as he will lead the attack.

Real Madrid have reportedly decided to put hopes on Benzema and the Frenchman must prove himself in the game as it will be a pointer to what to expect in the future.

There is also the battle that is sure to take place between Sergio Ramos and Diego Costa, and we wait to see how it pans out. Hopefully, Los Blancos get off to a winning start under Julen Lopetegui and without Cristiano Ronaldo.
