Madrid has completed the signing of Joselu Mato, a Galician striker who represented Espanyol last season. The club has been tracking the Spanish international for several months and considers him an ideal addition to their squad. As reported by Relevo a month ago, Real Madrid closely monitored his situation while awaiting the outcome of Espanyol’s league campaign. The relegation of the Catalan team has expedited the process, and Madrid is prepared for Joselu’s presentation.

Similar to the previous signings of Brahim Díaz, Fran García, and Jude Bellingham, Joselu will be officially introduced at the Ciudad Deportiva de Valdebebas next Tuesday, most likely at 12:00 noon. While awaiting official confirmation, the club is making arrangements for this venue, as the ongoing construction work at the Santiago Bernabéu prevents the use of the stadium for welcoming new signings.

Joselu had a contractual clause that facilitated his move to the capital. Espanyol’s relegation triggered the option for the Galician striker to be loaned to any LaLiga team willing to match his previous salary at Cornellá, a condition that Real Madrid can easily meet.

Joselu is no stranger to the Madrid faithful. The Silleda-born player joined Real Madrid’s youth ranks in the summer of 2010 from Celta. He enjoyed successful spells with the Castilla team, scoring 14 and 19 goals in his first two seasons. However, he struggled to find consistency in the first team and was eventually transferred to Germany’s Hoffenheim in 2012.

His recent campaigns have further solidified Madrid’s interest in securing his services. During his three seasons at Alavés, he netted 11, 11, and 14 goals, while his last season at Espanyol saw him score 16 goals and earn the Zarra Trophy. His impressive performances in Barcelona also earned him a call-up to the Spanish National Team, where he is currently focused on competing in the Nations League.
