Los Blancos face biggest test yet away to Sevilla

Real Madrid face their biggest test yet of the 2018/19 La Liga season as they face Sevilla tonight at the Ramon Pizjuan Sanchez.

It’s one of Real’s bogey grounds in recent times, and it will definitely be a tougher task without the experience of Isco and Dani Carvajal.

The in-form Isco has been ruled out of the game after undergoing an appendicitis operation and is set to miss a minimum of 4 matches for Los Blancos. Meanwhile, Carvajal won’t play any part as he continues on his road to full recovery.

Real Madrid closed the gap on Barcelona last weekend after a favorable outcome from a VAR decision. The same VAR influenced Barcelona’s game which led to a draw against Girona after defender Lenglet was red carded. Hopefully, such favors follow Real to the Sanchez Pizjuan tonight as they would definitely need it.

Both sides will be coming into the game at the back of successive wins in the La Liga and in European competitions, and Julen Lopetegui’s men will be wary of the Pablo Machin led side who have scored 11 goals in their last 2 games.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have struggled to score as they would have loved in their last 2 games with just 2 goals. One in a 1 all draw away to Athletic Bilbao, and 1 in a hard-fought win against Espanyol at the Bernabeu.

It must be noted that Los Blancos’ five previous visits to Sevilla have ended in 4 defeats and just 1 win for the Galacticos. Therefore, Julen Lopetegui and his men have their work cut out for them in this potential spoiler tonight.

The last visit to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan was a five goal thriller which Sergio Ramos has no fond memories of.

The Los Blancos went down 3 nil courtesy of goals from Ben Yedder, Layun, and a Ramos own goal, before rallying back to score 2 late goals. However, it was too late with Sergio Ramos also missing a penalty in the game.

Julen Lopetegui will be looking to avoid a similar occurrence, and Ramos will be keen to exert revenge at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

It’s good that Los Blancos now have significant dynamism in attack but they will have to go the extra mile to see out all three points tonight and it will be a big ask. Isco will be sorely missed too.

Regardless. this should be a cracking encounter, as Lopetegui has a good number of players to call on. The notable absentees still remain Isco and Carvajal.

Gareth Bale and Toni Kroos were rested during the weekend and it suddenly looks like a genius decision. This should be key tonight as both players will need to step it up.

We’ll get to see how they adapt without Isco who has been menacing in his last few games. Hopefully, they get something out of the game.
